In partnership with South Tyneside Council and Dogger Bank Wind Farm, welcome to Making Waves: Inventing for a better ocean challenge!
This invention challenge is being delivered with children in South Tyneside.
Dogger Bank Wind Farm is in the process of becoming the world’s largest offshore wind farm. It will be capable of powering 6 million British homes. The project will generate a vast source of renewable energy, harnessing the power of wind to provide sustainable energy and reducing the use of fossil fuels.
Key Stage 1 - 3 are taking on an invention challenge created for their age groups, focusing on the wonders of the ocean and all that lives within it. The challenge will encourage children to expand their skills in STEM learning and broaden their knowledge of the ocean and why it is essential to all life on Earth.
As the children get creative and innovate in their ideas, they learn how their contributions can develop technology and improve the environment in years to come.
In 2023 and 2024 year 4's and 5's across South Tyneside took part in our Powering the Future challenge. 10 ideas were brought to life by an expert team of makers and showcased at an exhibition at The Word between July and November 2023.
We have created a wonderful documentary to showcase the activity and impact of the first year of this challenge project. It's a lovely watch, please take a few minutes to enjoy.
Will your imagination change the world? Children of South Tyneside will be taking part in this spectacular challenge, delivered in collaboration with Dogger Bank Wind Farm and South Tyneside Council. Pupils will invent inspired by our awesome ocean to help make it a better places for all living beings on Earth. Let's make waves and help look after our beautiful seas together!
